Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga in Sawan 2026: Darshan Booking, Puja, Hotels & Travel Guide

If you’re planning an Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Yatra, especially during the holy month of Shravan, this detailed guide will help you with everything you need—from Delhi to Omkareshwar travel, Indore to Omkareshwar bus and cab options, darshan booking, hotels, budget planning, Mahakaleshwar Ujjain itinerary, and practical travel tips.
Whether you’re a devotee of Lord Shiva or a spiritual traveler, this guide is designed to help you complete one of India’s most sacred pilgrimages comfortably and affordably.
Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga – One of the 12 Sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva

A Jyotirlinga is much more than a temple. It is considered the divine manifestation of Lord Shiva himself as an eternal pillar of light (Jyoti). Every Shiva devotee dreams of visiting all 12 Jyotirlingas in India at least once in their lifetime.
While some devotees complete the entire pilgrimage, many are unable to because these temples are spread across different parts of India.
The twelve Jyotirlingas are located in:
- Madhya Pradesh – Omkareshwar & Mahakaleshwar
- Uttar Pradesh – Kashi Vishwanath
- Jharkhand – Baidyanath Dham
- Maharashtra – Trimbakeshwar, Bhimashankar & Grishneshwar
- Gujarat – Somnath & Nageshwar
- Andhra Pradesh – Mallikarjuna
- Tamil Nadu – Rameshwaram
- Uttarakhand – Kedarnath
Covering all twelve requires thousands of kilometers of travel, but with proper planning, it can be completed on a reasonable budget.
Why I Started My Jyotirlinga Yatra from Indore
I began my spiritual journey from Delhi.
There are multiple trains connecting Delhi to Indore, making it one of the easiest cities to reach. Even if you’re planning at the last minute, Tatkal tickets are often available.
I selected Indore because it serves as the perfect base for visiting both Jyotirlingas in Madhya Pradesh:
- Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga
- Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, Ujjain
This route saves both time and transportation costs.
Although many devotees begin from Somnath or Kashi Vishwanath, there is no fixed sequence for completing the Jyotirlinga Yatra.
Delhi to Omkareshwar via Indore
From Indore Bus Stand, buses to Omkareshwar are available every 30 minutes to one hour.
Bus Fare
- ₹150–₹200 per person
If you prefer a more comfortable journey, book an intercity cab.
Cab Fare
- One-way: Around ₹1,500
- Same-day return: Usually cheaper overall
The road journey is smooth, making Omkareshwar an ideal day trip from Indore.
Best Time to Visit Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga
The temple remains open throughout the year.
However, the most popular season is Shravan (Sawan).
During Shravan:
- Hotels become expensive.
- Darshan queues become much longer.
- Local transport fares increase.
- Traffic restrictions are implemented.
A shared vehicle that normally costs ₹50–₹100 may charge almost double.
If you’re visiting during Shravan, carry extra cash, allow additional travel time, and be patient.
Remember, this is a spiritual journey—not just another vacation.
Where to Stay in Omkareshwar
Omkareshwar offers accommodation for every budget.
Budget Hotels
₹500–₹1,200 per night
Gajanan Ashram
Highly recommended for families.
Important rules:
- Rooms are generally allotted only to families.
- Husband-wife
- Parents with children
- Siblings
Groups of unrelated friends usually aren’t provided accommodation.
Many pilgrims also choose to stay in Indore, which provides better hotel options and easier transportation.
Check their website for room booking www.gajananmaharajsanstan.com
Omkareshwar Darshan Booking Guide
Before your visit, book your darshan through the official Omkareshwar Temple website.
₹300 VIP Darshan
If you want to save time, the ₹300 darshan ticket significantly reduces waiting time.
Free Darshan Queue
During Shravan, expect a waiting time of 4–5 hours.
Jal abhishek During Shravan – Important Update
Many devotees plan to perform Jalabhishek or special pujas.
However, during Shravan, due to heavy crowds and temple administration guidelines, devotees are generally not permitted to perform Jalabhishek directly on the Jyotirlinga.
Even if you book a special puja, the rituals may be conducted according to the temple’s revised procedures.
Always check the latest guidelines before traveling.
Places to Visit in Omkareshwar
Your visit isn’t complete with just one temple.
1. Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga
The main temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
The island itself is believed to naturally resemble the sacred Sanskrit symbol “Om”, giving Omkareshwar its name.
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva manifested here in his divine Jyotirlinga form.
2. Mamleshwar Mahadev Temple
Local belief says that Omkareshwar Yatra remains incomplete without visiting Mamleshwar Temple.
Don’t miss it.
3. Narmada Aarti
If staying overnight, attend the evening Narmada Aarti.
The peaceful atmosphere creates a truly unforgettable spiritual experience.
4. Omkareshwar Parikrama
Distance:
Approximately 7–8 km
You can complete it:
- On foot
- By boat (partially)
Omkareshwar to Mahakaleshwar Ujjain
After Omkareshwar, many pilgrims head directly to Mahakaleshwar Temple, Ujjain.
I returned to Indore first, but both routes are convenient.
Hotels Near Mahakaleshwar Temple
Off-season
₹1,500–₹2,000
Shravan
₹3,000–₹4,000
If you stay 2–3 km away from the temple, prices become much more affordable.
Mahakaleshwar Bhasma Aarti
One of the biggest attractions in Ujjain is the world-famous Bhasma Aarti.
Thousands of devotees travel only to witness this extraordinary ritual.
The spiritual atmosphere during the Aarti is unlike anything else.
Normally, passes are booked several months in advance.
However, during my visit, the district administration had temporarily revised the booking system, so advance reservations were suspended.
Always check the latest rules before planning your visit.
Places to Visit in Ujjain
Along with Mahakaleshwar Temple, don’t miss:
- Ram Ghat
- Kal Bhairav Temple
- Bade Ganesh Temple
- Baglamukhi Temple
The evening Aarti at Ram Ghat is especially beautiful.
Food Budget During the Journey
Vegetarian food is easily available throughout the pilgrimage.
Daily food budget:
